Terror Requires Fear to Survive

Just like oxygen feeds the human body, fear feeds terror and it can only survive if the fear remains.

Without the fear, a terrorist attack, such as the horrible one that occurred at the Boston Marathon yesterday are just awful events. The fear that naturally results and unfortunately is encouraged by main stream media is the only thing that keeps the terror of that attack alive.

I do not mean to minimize any of the suffering that has occurred to those immediately affected, but for most of us, the ones that were no where near Boston, the suffering we feel is only self-induced. For the majority of Americans, our suffering comes from the fear that we feel.

Please do not let the terrorists win and cause any more suffering than is necessary. Do not let them steal our freedom or our love of life.

If you run races, do not stop. Also, do yourself a favor and restrict the amount of time you spend watching or reading media reports about the event. Although there have been some reports that have focused on the heroism and other positive outcomes, most reports instill a great sense of fear in anyone watching. Once you know the facts, watching continuous coverage can only heighten your natural sense of fear.

Take care and be sure to tell someone you love today how much they mean to you.

Peace, Sara

Moving for Balance

The focus of Day 13 for the 21-Day meditation challenge has been on moving for balance through exercise. Deepak spoke mostly about Yoga, but he acknowledged that all forms of exercise are a form of moving meditation that “allow us to experience the richness of the outer world, strengthen our cardiovascular systems, release endorphins and clear our minds”.

For as long as I can remember, I have been an active person. As a child I was a serious ballet dancer. Although, I did not continue to dance after High school, I was always involved in some activity whether it was hiking, rollerblading, cycling, or just walking.

In my mid-thirties, I discovered the worlrunningd of running and it has been one of the biggest blessings. As I described in an earlier post titled, The Power of Running, running did not come naturally to me. The very first time I ran, I felt like I was going to die. Everything HURT!!! But just like with eating well, changing my thought patterns and daily meditation, I soon started to see my efforts paying off.

Ten years later, I cannot imagine not being a runner. With a little luck and a lot of dedicati0n, I plan on running and competing in races well into my later years. I can see myself as a ninety year old woman, running down the street (perhaps very slowly, but running nevertheless).

I feel as if running has truly brought me closer to myself and to God and it has helped me in so many ways. It has strengthened my immune system, made me smarter, and increased my self-esteem. But mostly, it has taught me that anything in life is possible. I wish this for you all too.

Meditation Takes Practice – Lots Of It!

Today is day eight of the 21-Day Meditation Challenge, sponsored by The Chopra Center. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I have been meditating on an almost daily basis for several months now (5 months to be exact). For this reason, I find the daily meditation practice to be invigorating and uplifting. I am getting a great deal from it and I will speak about that more in an upcoming post.

meditationHowever, not everyone finds meditation so useful. Especially those brand new to the experience of meditation. I had convinced my husband to try the 21-day Meditation challenge with me, but he has determined that it is not quite working for him. He says that it only puts him to sleep. He has opted to discontinue the daily practice and I do not hold that against him one bit.

I have found meditation to be rather similar to physical exercise. If you are new to the experience, it takes a while before it starts to feel natural and you really start to see the benefits. Until then, it can be uncomfortable and possibly even painful.

If you are new to meditation and you are finding it to not be the wonderful experience you were expecting, I urge you to continue anyway. Some of the most rewarding things in life can be the hardest and most difficult to attain. I see meditation as no different. For many of us, meditation does not come easy, but if you stay with it, I have no doubt that you will start to see results.

If you are not familiar with the 21-day Meditation Challenge, I urge you to go to following link and sign-up for this remarkable and FREE online service.

The Intuition of Your Body

Day 3 of the 21-day Mediation Challenge and today’s centering thought is:

“My Mind and Body are in Perfect Sync”   day-3

Today’s mediation is based on the belief that we have two minds – the rational mind and the intuitive mind. Our intuitive mind is the inner voice that guides us in the right direction. Unfortunately, in today’s society, most of us have learned to ignore our intuitive minds and only listen to our rational one. This is a MISTAKE!

As I wrote in a previous post entitled, “Your Life is Speaking to You, But are You Listening“, we must all learn to trust ourselves and know that someone is always trying to help us – and that someone is ourselves.

The Nature of Perfect Health

day-2Today is Day 2 of the 21-Day Meditation Challenge, sponsored by The Choppra Center. I am enrolled in this wonderful free online program and today’s centering thought is that, “Balance is my True Nature”.

For most of my life, all things associated with life seemed very difficult. It was not until a few years ago, when I had the awareness that I was missing my life, that I started to make drastic changes. Some of the changes were very big and sudden, such as divorcing my first alcoholic husband of 12 years, quitting my high-paying Corporate job as a web developer, and moving to the country.

Still, other changes have been slow and gradual, such as changing my diet away from processed food and towards only natural foods, running on an almost daily basis, and ensuring that I always get a good nights sleep. And of course, most recently, I have begun a daily regimen of meditation.

All of the changes have been leading me towards a state of balance and I know from experience that everything Deepak Choppra speaks of in today’s meditation is 100% true. Please join me in discovering all the wonderful possibilities that your life can become.

You are the Universe and the Universe is You!

The Journey to Perfect Health

I have been meditating on an almost daily basis for several months now (with the help of the OmLife mediation tapes that I purchased from the OmHarmonics division of MindValley). Despite the fact that my life has been extremely challenging, I have remained centered and focused through it all. I credit meditation with this almost entirely. day-1

Because of this, I was very excited to learn about an upcoming 21-Day Meditation Challenge being sponsored by Oprah Winfrey and Deepak Chopra. It is a free and interactive daily program designed to guide you towards perfect health.

Today was Day 1 of the challenge and I am very excited about all the possibilities that lie ahead. The best part is that I have convinced my husband to join me in this challenge.

If you are experiencing problems in your life and you feel like you have lost touch with your true self, I urge you to take a few minutes and sign up for this wonderful FREE online program. I truly believe it has the power to CHANGE YOUR LIFE!!!!

Don’t throw stones at Mindy McCready

Along with many people today, I was saddened to hear about the self-inflicted death of singer Mindy McCready. I am not a big County music fan and I have not lived a life like she did, but I can certainly relate to some of what she must have been going through.

There was a time (not too terribly long ago) when my life was spiraling out of control much like hers did. I was drinking too much, but mostly I was feeling sorry for myself too much. I was stuck in an endless loop of creating chaos and then reacting to chaos. I am not ashamed to admit that there was more than one night in which if things had gone a slightly different way, I would not be here writing this post.

Although I never attempted to take my life, I did put my life in critical danger (more than once). I imagine all of us have been or could easily be in Mindy’s very own shoes. We ALL have the potential to reach a point where life just seems “too hard”. It is not as impossible as you may think for things to get that bad.

GlassHousesIf you feel the urge to judge Ms. McCready or to think, “Gosh, she was pretty, famous and had two young kids – what could she have been so sad about?”, just remember that one day you could be in her very shoes, facing some of the very same challenges. None of us is completely immune from that. We are all living in glass houses and none of us should be throwing stones.

At the same time, none of us are doomed to the same fate as she was. There is always a chance to turn things around and reverse the spiral you may be in. There is HOPE!!!

The first step is acknowledging how bad things have become and to seek help if necessary. Recovery can be a long road and it can be full of setbacks, but it IS possible to get better and to be better. I know, because I have pulled myself off of the floor of life and my life is a thousand times better than it was before.

Do not feel like you are all alone in your suffering. You’re not! All of us suffer at one time or another. Suffering is a part of life, but it doesn’t always have to signal an end to life. Reach out to someone and tell them how you feel. Ask for help if you need it and more importantly, accept it, if it is offered.

Find the beauty in life, because I PROMISE you, it is THERE!!!!!
